Why yes, even with a repeat c-section, I manage to have a birth story to share! Not surprisingly, I was pretty much on the go during the entire Memorial Day weekend, since I knew I had a tight deadline. Little did I know just how tight! On Monday evening, Harold was in the shower after doing some yardwork, and I was in the kitchen making pasta for Ollie's lunch the next day. Suddenly, I felt the tell-tale little gush of water that I could not control. I sent a small prayer that it was actually pee and not my water breaking, but I knew it wasn't.
Luckily for us, Chye (who is due before ME) offered to come to NJ from Manhattan to stay with Ollie while we headed to the hospital. Harold's parents had been called and were on their way, but we needed someone to be with Ollie until they got to our house. I actually considered waiting until the in laws got to NJ before going to the hospital, because I wasn't feeling any contractions. Well, it's a good thing I didn't wait, because when I got to the hospital, they said I was 5 cm dilated and my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart. I always knew I had a high threshold for pain, but even that surprised me. But then I DID start feeling the contractions while we waited for the doctor to arrive for my c-section. And I was so mad, because I thought I would get to bypass the entire labor part of the process with a repeat c-section!
Anyway, the c-section itself wasn't so bad, although I was exhausted from fighting the nausea I felt with the anesthesia. Kyle Seung Shin came into the world at 12:31am on Tuesday, May 27th. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 12 oz and was 19 inches long. He looks exactly like his big brother but with a ton of long, crazy hair. He has Ollie's temperament, too... which means he is impatient when hungry. Harold's mom commented that he cries like an older infant, not a newborn.
I came home with the baby on Thursday, since I was recovering so well. Here are some pics of the munchkin...
And this officially retires my second pregnancy blog... please visit my everyday blog, Jeanius Thoughts, to see more pics of Kyle and to read about how Ollie is adapting to his big brother role!
